| Physical Description: | Boston Terriers are small, muscular dogs, usually standing about 15-17 inches tall and weighing 12-25 lbs. Their coat is short and smooth with the typical Boston Terrier being black and white. Additional color combinations are brown and white and brindle and white. The ears are perky and erect, generally pointing forward. The tail on the Boston Terrier is short and stump-like. The muzzle of the Boston Terrier is short, giving it that adorable schmushed up face. The eyes of the Boston Terrier are large and round, though not nearly as large as in the above cartoons. |
| Breed Origins: | Not surprisingly, the Boston Terrier has its origins the city of Boston. The breed was developed in the 1860s and was recognized as a distinct breed in 1893. The earliest versions of the Boston Terrier were much larger and were often used as fighting dogs. |
| Breed Personality: | Although, they were originally used in pit fighting, modern Boston Terriers are gentle and affectionate. Boston Terriers are good with children and make good apartment dogs. The keen intelligence of the Boston Terrier make training fairly easy, however, they can become bored, leading to mischief. |
| Misc: | Like many of the short snouted breeds, Boston Terriers can be very loud snorers and may snort. |
