| Physical Description: | Basenjis are hunting dogs that are about 17 inches in height and weigh about 25 pounds. The basenji coat is fine and comes in red, black, tricolor and brindle. The small erect ears face forward and the tail is short, curled tightly giving it a distinctive look. |
| Breed Origins: | The basenji is one of the oldest breeds and originated in central Africa. Dating back thousands of years, baseni like dogs are seen in ancient Egyptian art in Pharaoh tombs. Although, they have been around as long as they have, it wasn't until the 1930s that they appeared outside of Africa. |
| Breed Personality: | Basenjis are energetic and can become very attached to individuals. However, basenjis may be indifferent to strangers. |
| Misc: | The basenji is sometimes called the barkless dog. Because of the shape of the basenjis larynx, rather than barking, they make a yodeling sound. |
