Australian Cattle Dog Information

Find out some basic information about Australian Cattle Dogs. Most Australian Cattle Dog owners already know this stuff, but if you're new the breed, this is as good a place to start as any. Physical Description:	Australian Cattle Dogs weight between 30 and 60 and have a height of about 18-20 inches. They come in two colors, blue and red. You'll need to check your local dealership for availability and options. Although, Australian Cattle Dogs are classified as either red or blue, the coat on both are generally mottled, streaked with a lighter white or gray. This is usually very prominent around the face, sometimes giving a mask like appearance. The ears are pricked up and very expressive, with a tail that is long and bushy. (Fog lamps are optional.)
Breed Origins:	The Australian Cattle Dog, as the name indicates, was developed in Australian to herd cattle. The beginning of the breed dates to the early to mid 1800s, but was recognized as a distinct breed just prior to the turn of the 20th century
Breed Personality:	The Australian Cattle Dog is a very bright and energetic breed, that requires much activity to stay happy. Due to it's herding heritage, the have the tendency to try and herd people, especially children. Part of the herding instinct involves nipping at heels, so this may need to be trained out him.
Misc:	Owners of Australian Cattle Dogs are encouraged to engage their dogs in some sort of sport to channel their energy. Agility and obedience competition or flyball games are perfect outputs for this intelligent and active breed.
